Bidjar

A hand-knotted Bidjar rug, woven in north-west Persia, a region celebrated for producing some of the most durable and finely crafted Persian carpets. Often referred to as the “Iron Rugs of Persia,” Bidjar rugs are renowned for their dense weave, exceptional longevity, and beautifully balanced village designs.

This example features an ivory field filled with an all-over pattern of stylised animal motifs, a distinctive design found in traditional Persian village weaving. The rich terracotta border, highlighted with soft blue geometric and floral motifs, frames the composition beautifully, while the combination of ivory, burgundy, deep blue, and muted brown gives the rug a warm and timeless character.
